The power of giving back during the 2016 holiday season: why Donation Drives are a win-win

"I wasn't sure if I was going to have a Christmas this year. I had absolutely nothing to offer my family. But then your gifts and genuine care gave me hope again. I've never seen so many presents under a tree before! Honestly, my kids' smiles shined brighter than the tree lights!"

"My seven-year-old loves superhero cartoons and always wanted a Superman toy. The fact that he got a Superman cape, video game, book and backpack, made me believe in real-life superheroes. Thank you so much for this incredible Christmas."

Our goal is to give people a Christmas experience. Whether it be to provide deserving families a tree, Christmas dinner and personalized presents, or to give a donor a letter that details how their generosity helped another person during the holidays, giving them all the feels.

Perhaps your question isn't, "what can I do to help this year?", but instead "who can I help this year?"

Luckily, we have managed to get enough donors to fulfill our target goal of 500 families in the Greater Toronto Area! Although this program is now full, we still need help, and there are other ways that you can participate:

 Host a donation drive

Running around the city, frantically trying to find that last Shopsy's doll? Running into WalMart to buy out all of the sale diaper packages? Talk about team-building! We offer you and your network the experience of participating in our Donation Drive, where you select the type of items you want to purchase in bulk, buy it and deliver it to us. We then use these items during wrapping week to top-off family packages for our those sponsored in our program. Instead of helping one family, why not help 500?

Donors can decide on hosting a diaper and baby drive, a linen drive, toiletries for women, and more! Register here, but remember this will fill up VERY fast!

"No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted." - Aesop

Charitable giving = feeling good. It's actual science. This Huffington Post blog article says that one of the reasons why we feel so good when we donate is because know who we are donating to. Our charity offers this, resulting in thousands of donors and volunteers who've been helping us for the past 20 years. Check out some of the letters that we've received from families that we've helped.

The holiday season is the best time to get social, so it's a great idea to talk with loved ones and take action. And any of our past donors and volunteers will attest that our spots fill up quickly!

Basically, we want to say that helping us out is a benefit to the families in need, and YOU. Visit holidayhelpers.org for more and be sure to share your feel-good moments by tagging us: #HolidayHelpers #HH20Years #HH500families.
