We asked Wendy…

How have you been involved with Holiday Helpers?
A: I have been involved with HH since our grassroots years when were collecting money outside supermarkets to buy Christmas presents for a few families and wrapping gifts in our living rooms.  We have come along way since those initial years.

What is your favourite Christmas tradition?
A: Every year, we have a Friendmas celebration with some of our closest friends that started as just friends but has expanded each year as our own families grow.  It is a night after Holiday Helpers has finished for the season and we have an opportunity to celebrate the festive season.

Do you have a favourite Christmas memory you want to share?
A: The 2016 Christmas season, my daughter wanted the infamous “Hatchimal” for Christmas.  It was sold out everywhere and I made it my mission to get her a Hatchimal. When I had finally secured her Hatchimal, I didn’t stop my search as I continued to find Hatchimals for all my other friends who were madly trying to create the magic for their kids on Christmas.  My methods of search, online sites, waitlists, were likely different than the line at Consumer Distributing but probably similar to the anxiety my mom had trying to ensure I had my  Cabbage Patch Kids in the 80’s.

If you had an elf name, what would it be?
A: Sherlock Elf- Whenever we have a problem at the warehouse and we need to solve a problem, I put my detective hat on and unravel the mystery.

What’s the one Christmas dish or snack you can’t live without?
A: It’s not Christmas without Christmas baking…Any kind of Christmas Cookie!

Q: What moments make Holiday Helpers special for you?
A: Assisting the team with the month-long operations and helping multiple families with their packages in time for Christmas.
