Finding Warmth and Hope After Starting Over in Canada

When Anton and Yana arrived in Canada with their son, Tymofii, in early 2023, they were hoping for safety, stability, and a fresh start. Leaving their home because of the war meant rebuilding everything from the ground up. Although they had well-established careers back home, navigating a new country came with challenges, from language barriers to finding stable work, all while supporting their son’s needs.

Adjusting was especially difficult for Tymofii, who requires a high level of day-to-day support. The stress of displacement made the transition even harder, but over time he began to settle into a new routine. He now attends a school where he receives the specialized support he needs and has started making friends, small steps that mean a great deal to the family.

A Christmas Filled With Care and Comfort

As the holidays approached, Anton and Yana were doing everything they could to build a new life. Anton was enrolled in employment training programs, and both parents had begun volunteering in their community. But with rising expenses and ongoing uncertainty, Christmas gifts and winter essentials were out of reach.

Then Holiday Helpers stepped in.

When their Christmas package arrived, the family was overwhelmed by the care and thoughtfulness inside. In their thank you letter, they shared how much the essentials meant to them: “The winter clothes you selected are perfect, and they have already kept us warm and cozy during the chilly days.”

They were especially touched by the items chosen for Tymofii. “The sensory toys have been such a blessing for our child. They have not only brought joy but also helped to engage and calm.” These moments of comfort made their holiday season feel brighter.

Kindness That Stays With Them

More than anything, what stayed with them was the compassion behind every gift. “It is rare to experience such kindness. Your generosity has given us more than just material gifts. It has brought us comfort, joy, and a sense of being cared for,” they wrote.

For this family, their Holiday Helpers experience brought more than festive celebration. It offered relief during an overwhelming year and reminded them that they were not alone as they continued rebuilding their lives in Canada.

“We will cherish these gifts and carry your kindness with us always.”

Families like Anton, Yana, and Tymofii remind us why the Holiday Helpers mission is so important. Every sponsored family receives not only gifts but hope, dignity, and a moment of joy during a challenging time.
