Samanpreet and Her Daughter: Rebuilding With Strength and Hope

This holiday season, we are honoured to share the story of Samanpreet and her daughter, Amaya. Born and raised in Canada, Samanpreet is a devoted mother who has been working hard to create a safe and stable life for her young daughter. Earlier this year, she and Amaya made the difficult decision to leave an unsafe situation and begin the long process of rebuilding. With support from a Child and Family therapist, she completed counselling and took meaningful steps forward, including enrolling in college and beginning her job search.

They recently moved into a new apartment. It is a fresh start, but they still have very few belongings as they work toward creating a home. For families starting over, especially after instability and hardship, the holiday season can feel heavy and out of reach. Thanks to the generosity of Holiday Helpers sponsors, Samanpreet and Amaya were able to experience a Christmas filled with comfort, joy and a sense of possibility.

A Christmas Filled With Light Again

In her thank-you letter, Samanpreet shared just how meaningful this support was. She wrote, “I’m not even sure how to start this letter because ‘thank you’ just doesn’t feel big enough for what you’ve done for me and my daughter, Amaya, this Christmas.” After an incredibly difficult year emotionally and financially, she explained how receiving help brought her a moment of relief. “For the first time in a long time, I felt a huge weight lift off my shoulders.”

Christmas morning brought laughter back into their home. Amaya lit up while unwrapping her Barbie car and the thoughtful mix of fun and educational gifts chosen just for her. Samanpreet said that “seeing her laugh and smile brought me to tears because it’s been so long since I’ve seen her that happy and carefree.”

A Moment of Care for a Mom Who Gives Everything

The gifts for Samanpreet also made a powerful impact. After spending so long focused on survival and transition, she rarely has the chance to do anything special for herself. Receiving luxurious shampoos, conditioners and bath products reminded her that she deserved care and rest too. She shared that “after the hardest year of my life, being able to use those luxurious items felt like such a gift for my soul.”

More than anything, she wanted donors to understand the true depth of their impact. As she wrote, “Your generosity didn’t just give us gifts. It gave us a holiday filled with love, joy and memories I’ll treasure forever.” Amaya had the best Christmas ever and for the first time in a long time, Samanpreet did too.

Families like theirs are the heart of Holiday Helpers. Every sponsor, donor and volunteer plays a part in bringing warmth, dignity and hope to those rebuilding after hardship. Thank you for helping create Christmas mornings full of light and joy for this family and so many others.
