Sarah’s Family Tradition of Giving
At Holiday Helpers, we are continually inspired by the generosity of donors who help bring joy to families each year. One of those supporters is Sarah, a long-time wishlist donor and member of our Board of Directors. For her and her family, giving has become a meaningful holiday tradition rooted in kindness and connection.
Why She Chose to Give Back
Sarah first became a wishlist donor about three years ago. As she shared, “The holidays are such a beautiful time of connection and sharing, but sometimes it definitely can feel a bit commercial.” While out shopping for her own family, she often found herself thinking about the people who might be struggling during the season. “I always just thought of all of the other people who are struggling, who maybe do not have a full table for the holidays.”
She wanted her giving to feel personal and meaningful. “I wanted something really personal… something to really have an impact,” she explained. When she discovered Holiday Helpers, the local and community-focused approach stood out immediately.
A Moment That Stayed With Her
One memory that continues to inspire her came from her very first sponsored family. After the holidays, she received a handwritten letter she had not been expecting. “I did not realize that you got a letter after the family had received their gifts,” she said.
It was from a single mother who had been facing a difficult year, describing in detail the joy the gifts brought to each of her children. The message moved Sarah deeply. “Tears were streaming down my face… I was so touched, so grateful for the experience.” It was a powerful reminder of how meaningful one act of generosity can be.
A Family Tradition of Giving
Today, sponsoring a family has become something her own household looks forward to every year. “When I shop for my families, I definitely do get my whole family involved,” she shared. Her mother, husband, and loved ones join her in choosing thoughtful gifts and preparing each box with care. “It is definitely become an annual tradition in our household, which is so beautiful.”
Her Advice to New Donors
For anyone considering sponsoring a family this year, Sarah’s message is simple. Do not overthink it, just try it. “I know it can feel a little overwhelming… but once you do it, you will get hooked. It is such a beautiful, beautiful experience.”
As she put it best, “I find the act of giving to be so much more rewarding than the act of receiving.” Her generosity and the joy she finds in it remind us of the true spirit of the holiday season.
If you are thinking about becoming a donor, we encourage you to take that first step. Your kindness can make a world of difference for a family in need.
