Supporting Families in Need Through Black Creek Community Health Centre
For many families, the holidays can be a difficult time, especially for those new to Canada, far from loved ones, and still finding their footing in a new country. That’s where the partnership between Holiday Helpers and Black Creek Community Health Centre (CHC) makes all the difference.
For over five years, Black Creek CHC has been one of Holiday Helpers’ trusted referral partners, connecting families in the Jane and Wilson and Jane and Finch communities with the magic of Christmas. The organization supports newcomers, low-income families, ESL learners, and individuals navigating high-risk pregnancies. These are families working hard to build new lives while managing the financial challenges that often come during the holiday season.
“Holiday Helpers makes such a big impact, especially during the holidays,” says Paola, a team member at Black Creek CHC. “I even have some clients that call me crying out of happiness over the gifts they received.”
Through Holiday Helpers, each referred family receives personalized gifts, festive Christmas decorations, and essential household items. Every family member also receives a brand-new winter jacket, which can be life-changing for those experiencing their first Canadian winter.
“They’re away from their families, and this is the first time in our country,” explains Sonja. “Adjusting to the climate can be overwhelming, and the winter jacket makes a lot of difference because they don’t know what the cold is.”
The impact of these holiday packages goes far beyond material support. For many families, it’s a reminder that they are not alone and that their community cares. “You are coming into their life to make a difference, and they’re very grateful for all the help,” says Sonja.
With Christmas quickly approaching, hundreds of families referred by agencies like Black Creek CHC are still waiting for sponsors. You can help make a difference this season by signing up to sponsor a family today.
